Patchwork Material Quilting Workshops

THE MYSTERY OF PATCHWORK
CREATING YOUR OWN FAMILY HEIRLOOM
MAKING NEW FRIENDS .

Now is the perfect time being the month of October to soak the fruit for the Christmas Cakes and Chrismas Pudding.  I love the smell of the cakes and puddings when they are cooking the delicious smell seems to fill the house.

Here at Butterfly Quilters our Friday girls have gone crazy on hand sewing hexagons.  To save time I have hexagon dies for my Accquilt Go Cutter - 1",1 1/2", 2 1/2" and 4 1/2", side measurement.

My latest purchase is the Sizzix Big Shot and I have the 1" side measurement hexagon die to cut the papers and the 1.25" side measurement to cut the fabric.    This takes away all the pain.  A great way to use up some of those scraps we all have.

We are going to have a day of hand sewing hexagons so if you would like to come along for a day using the cutters to cut out some of your hexagons and maybe swopping scraps of fabric with other members of the group.   A chance for a good old natter with plenty of tea and cake thrown in for good measure.    Please contact me if you are interested date is November 30th.

I shall be lovingly sewing my hexagon sat by a roaring fire whilst my Christmas Cakes and puddings are cooking.

By popular demand I have booked our Jan Dodd to do another Braiding Workshop on November 23rd book early as the spaces are being quickly filled.

I am so excited as we are now stocking some of Pat Bravo's fantastic fabrics and patterns the vibrant colours and the quality of the fabric with it's high thread count is a joy to work with.

I have had great fun using fabric from her Dreaming in French Collection to make a quilt top using my 5 x 5 pattern design.   I used a lime green thread to quilt Petaline design by Hermoine Agee on my longarm which shows up really well on the purple backing.

Pictured below is a Free Pattern by Pat Bravo called Orchestra a copy of which is included with the purchase of the quilt kit.

Pat's design is a wonderful showcase for her

I am having fun playing with the "Woodland Fairies Panel designed by Barbara Tourtillotte for Clothworks.

This is the first stage click onto material section at bottom of this page for more information.

I carefully cut the nine square in the panel to the same size. Then I framed them in cream fabric and choose the bright pink Moda Marble for the corner stones.

Stage 2 I added borders same colour as sashings now I am going to work on stage 3

DAISY DAIZ QUILT FROM THE DAISY DAIZ COLLECTION

designed and made by Lyn Carr

FAIRY PRINCESS Designed by Leere' for Clothworks

Below is the 22" approx Square panel I added different width borders (3 in total) using fabrics from the same range.

Picture above. For more information click onto the Material section.

THE ALOHA QUILT Fabric designed by Jennifer Chiaverini for Red Rooster Fabrics

The bright colours of this pre-printed fabric help to brighten my day especially when the sun forgets to shine.

The centre of the quilt is the pre-printed fabric and I added the green fabric to frame and bind. The second larger border I used the flower material to compliment. I used Moda Calico for the backing and to quilt it I used the longarm pantagraph pattern WALLFLOWER by HERMOINE AGEE. The finished size is 56" x 46"

The size of this project would be ideal for doing straight line quilting using masking tape as a quide on your sewing machine.

My Block of the month Flowers at the Mill will soon be up and running . I am doing a Block of the Month with my quilt "Flowers at the Mill". This consists of 12 Blocks around a Central Block with setting triangles, Border and four corner squares.

My inspiration for this quilt was a visit to the wonderful gardens at Docton Mill, Hartland, Devon. Whilst having a superb lunch there I decided I would go back home and design a quilt and below is the result. My dear friend Mary Williams helped me, and kept me on track. The quilt has been made-up three times two with a black background, one of which Mary hand appliqued with button hole stitch. The other quilt with the pale background was machined.

For the Central Block and the surrounding 12 blocks There is an additional and seperate project.

This can be purchased in kit form, with the choice of a dark or a light background. Or patterns only.

Please contact me if you are interested. Details will be posted shortly.

Photographs were taken in the restaurant at Docton Mills

GARDEN SONG panel designed by Nancy Holversen for Benertex

This would be great for several different projects a gardening bag, small quilt to go in a conservatory or as I have done left the panel whole added backing and wadding quilted in a random large squiggle and bound it. You can finish it off by adding a sleeve to the back or add some tab's for a rod to be inserted making it a lovely wall hanging. Perfect present for the gardeners in your family.
